Why Not Write Wednesdays? Creative Writing Prompts for Kids!

Every Wednesday our creative writing prompt challenges you to pick up your pen and indulge your author self! Today's prompt focuses on some of our favorite months: June, July & August. Many schools are back in swing, but it still feels like summer - at least until Labor Day. Whether it be sunny, sandy beaches or blankets of fog overtaking eucalyptus trees, certain weather makes people think about summertime all year long. What makes you think of summer?

Young Poets Society - featuring poets from Sloat Elementary

Inspired by Mary Oliver's nature poetry. Dear Trees,

How tall and overwhelming you are, with long branches where I can see yonder, even if I scare you out of your roots I still embrace the beauty of your pridely leaves, oh how they feel so nice, but even if I'm aftermath, I will always be by your side Remember, Cinders

-Nelson, Sloat Elementary

We're Officially Bi-Coastal!

For the past two years, "Take My Word for It!" has been teaching in one school in Northern Virginia called Oakton Elementary. Beginning this Fall, with the help of the intrepid Mary Pat Julian, we are expanding to 10 schools in the area and are bringing on a handful of talented MFA students and recent grads from George Mason University.

Virginia is for writers!
